Selection of Book Launches 2024

Dr. Kalyani Ramnath, assistant professor at Columbia University, presents her book “Boats in a Storm” (Stanford University Press 2023). The discussion was moderated by Praggya Surana (Geneva Graduate Institute). Professor Vasuki Nesiah (New York University) and Dr. Anam Soomro (FU Berlin) served as discussants.

Environmental lawyer and legal scholar Arpitha Kodiveri (Vassar College) presents her book ‚at the event’Governing Forests‘, drawing on her work with India’s forest-dwelling communities. She highlights how they bear the cost of destructive mining and growing pressure to set aside land for conservation. Despite these challenges, Kodiveri shows how traditional owners and forest inhabitants drive creative legal solutions. Hope emerges in each community’s unique vision of co-governance, expressed through care and repair. Marie Petersmann (LSE Law School) and Rahul Ranjan (University of Edinburgh, Department of Geography) join as discussants.

Foluke Adebisi, Professor in Law at the University of Bristol and Ntina Tzouvala, Associate Professor at the ANU College of Law present their edited volume ‚Decolonisation, Anti-Racism, and Legal Pedagogy‘.

Shahd Hammouri, Lecturer in Law, University of Kent, Grietje (River) Baars, Reader in Law and Social Change at SOAS, and Tor Krever, Assistant Professor in International Law, University of Cambridge discuss Strategic Litigation and Corporate Complicity in Crimes Under International Law by Kalika Mehta, Post-Doc and Lecturer at Humboldt University.
