Dr. Kalyani Ramnath, assistant professor at Columbia University, presents her book “Boats in a Storm” (Stanford University Press 2023). The discussion was moderated by Praggya Surana (Geneva Graduate Institute). Professor Vasuki Nesiah (New York University) and Dr. Anam Soomro (FU Berlin) served as discussants.
Environmental lawyer and legal scholar Arpitha Kodiveri (Vassar College) presents her book ‚at the event’Governing Forests‘, drawing on her work with India’s forest-dwelling communities. She highlights how they bear the cost of destructive mining and growing pressure to set aside land for conservation. Despite these challenges, Kodiveri shows how traditional owners and forest inhabitants drive creative legal solutions. Hope emerges in each community’s unique vision of co-governance, expressed through care and repair. Marie Petersmann (LSE Law School) and Rahul Ranjan (University of Edinburgh, Department of Geography) join as discussants.
